a dirty little secret

The dirty little secret to weight loss
What they don’t tell us

This is the little dirty secret that no one talks about, in the majority of weight-loss programs people regain their weight after completing the program. These people generally regain 30% to 35% of the weight they lost in just a year! Conversely those who regain weight face the adverse effects on blood pressure and a related quality of life. Traci Mann, PhD an associate professor of psychology at the University of California has stated that “A substantial number of people regain all the weight they lose on diets”

In fact not only did they regain the weight but increased in weight, furthermore once the weight regain occurs re-losing the weight is even more challenging.

The reasons for this regaining of weight has been well researched, and it was found that it was in the basic nature of goal setting, when asked most stated they wanted to look better and health was only a secondary goal, therefore once the weight was lost the motivation and inner desire to maintain the weight loss was no longer a factor, which only leads to slipping back into the lifestyle that caused the weight gain to start with.

According to leading Weight loss studies, Behavior skills that could protect against this relapse needs to be reinforced, deep basic thinking has to be changed to maintain the corrected weight . In a recent interview with Tony Cott from Maverick Hypnotics in Murrieta Ca. (www.maverickhypnotics.com) he stated,” Everything begins with Motivation and ends with Motivation, if this motivation is only on the surface level then it will quickly leave and weight gain will happen, but if the motivation is supported by the deeper level thinking, then not only will the weight loss be maintained but real lifestyle changes will occur”.

Obesity is without a doubt one of the biggest health factors in our present day, and the weight loss industry has become a billion dollar business! Per a recent advertising trend report more is spent by Weight loss programs than on the marketing of cars. Further in the interview with Tony, he stated “if you notice most of the leading Weight loss programs use “Looks” as the reason to lose weight, and this is the most surface level motivation there is”.

Leading health experts state, to manage weight and prevent weight regain is not a difficult task, it can be done by following a balanced nutritious diet and regularly exercising, and by seeking real ways to keep the level of motivation beyond the surface level.
